Eventions of Florida Announces Carol Eaves joins the team!!!

Carol, Senior Sales and Event Manager, a 30 year veteran of the hospitality industry in the Tampa area has joined the Eventions of Florida team. At Western Illinois University, Carol earned a BA in Political Science with a minor in interior design & architecture, as well as a secondary teaching certificate, but became involved in the travel industry, which lead to a career in travel and hospitality. Her affiliation with the travel industry has allowed Carol to travel to many parts of the world with Switzerland, New Zealand, Ireland and the Canadian Rockies as some of her favorites. During nearly 25 years with Destination Tampa Bay, Carol has worked with city wide conventions, corporate groups and associations, Super Bowl and Outback Bowl clients, as well as inbound tour and cruise groups both domestically and internationally. Carol is an active member of the Tampa Bay Chapter of Meeting Professionals International and an Executive Board member of SKAL International Tampa Bay Chapter and a member of the Executive Women’s Golf Association.

Congratulations Amanda ~ Awarded MPI Tampa Bay Area Member of the Month

Our very own Amanda Shanks was awarded Meeting Professionals International Tampa Bay Area (MPI TBA) Chapter’s Member of the Month. Each month, the MPI TBA awards a Member of the Month determined by the board of directors. Below is her write up in the Connections newsletter. We are proud of Amanda for being an Extraordinary Volunteer!

Connections Newsletter: The December member of the month is Amanda Shanks of Eventions of Florida. Amanda’s energy, drive and dedication to MPI is clearly shown through her support and volunteerism for our chapter. She has been a big part of both of the chapter’s community Outreach events that we have had so far this year. The time and commitment she has given has helped make both events great successes. Not only has she volunteered for both events, she has shown interest continuing to be involved one of our spring events. This type of enthusiasm is what makes this chapter so great.

How many years have you been in the Meetings/Event business? I started my career in the Meetings & Event business in May 2010 where I started as an Intern at Eventions of Florida. I have been with the company now for almost 2 years!

During that time, what would you say has been your best experience? So far, my best experience has been attending 2011 WEC in Orlando. I gained a ton of knowledge in such a short period of time!

Why did you first join MPI? I Joined MPI for the vast amount of educational and volunteer opportunities at monthly events and annual conferences. Most importantly, I joined to connect and build relationships with other meeting and event professionals.

What committees/volunteer opportunities have you been involved in during your membership? I started out on the Communications Committee participating in the Community Outreach Events such as the Build A Bear event and the Golf Scramble. I most recently joined the Special Events Committee volunteering at MPI after 5’s and the annual Gala and Holiday
Party. I have now have taken on the role of 2012 Gala Chair.

Please tell us any interesting fact about you that you’d like us to know (ie, you’re a paratrooper on the weekends, you belly dance for fun, etc.). I am a die-hard FSU Fan…Go Noles!

Eventions of Florida is excited to announce opening an office in South Florida and the addition to the team Sharon Johnson. Sharon, Senior Sales and Events Manager-South Florida Area, was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and raised in Naples, Florida. Her exposure to the wedding industry began early in a family-owned floral shop which provided her with years of experience in social planning. Sharon has extensive experience in marketing, destination sales, contract negotiations and operations and a vast knowledge of the Southwest Florida area. Sharon began her career at the Naples Grande Beach Resort, formerly the Registry Resort, and also worked for national DMC. For the last nine years Sharon managed group sales for a transportation company in Naples, which involved coordinating events and logistics for large scale events nationwide with companies such as ESPN.

New Member of the Team!

We are very excited to announce the newest member of our team, Sabrina O’Neal. Sabrina joined Eventions of Florida in June 2010 as the newest Senior Sales and Event Manager. A native of New Orleans, Sabrina graduated from the University of New Orleans with a degree in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism. While in college, Sabrina began her career with the Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans which brought her to her first sales job at the New Orleans Marriott. In 2007, Sabrina decided to take a position as Senior Sales Manager at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina. This position allowed her to work with multiple citywide meetings for associations in the Midwest and West Coast markets. Sabrina is a current and active member of Professional Convention Managers Association and Florida Society of Association Executives. After 10 years with Marriott, Sabrina is excited to be a part of the Eventions of Florida Team.

Getting ready for ACC!

We are very excited that the ACC Championship will be held in Tampa again this year! We are gearing up this month to prepare for assisting the Proud Sponsor, Dr Pepper, with there transportation and events for the second year in a row. With the help of our two fall interns, Elle Talent, Florida State University and Jenna Lee Rowe, University of Florida, we are confident this year’s program will be a huge success!!!!
